Warsaw, January 28, 2014 – According to International Data Corporation (IDC), PC shipments in Poland remained constrained in the fourth quarter of 2013, as both consumer and commercial demand continued to be weak; the year-on-year shipment decrease was greater in the consumer sector than in the commercial sector. Market Data

In 4Q13, overall PC shipments declined 10.1%, compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The desktop PC market rose 2.1% year on year to 902,000 units, while the portable PC market contracted 15.1% to 593,000 units.

Market Highlights

Renewed deals for public-sector organizations were the main driver of the Polish desktop PC market in Q4. IDC tracked a deal for the Social Insurance Institution for the purchase of 13,000 desktop PCs. Despite the decline of the portable PC market, the results were much better than major vendors expected. Market leader Lenovo shipped 177,000 portable PCs and captured 29.8% market share. Asus ranked second, followed by HP. Samsung focused its business activities on tablets rather than pushing sales of other portable PCs in 4Q13. Other vendors were able to bridge the gap in Samsung’s sales quickly, primarily with notebook shipments.
