Windows Upgrades Revive the Czech PC Market in 2014 Q1

Prague, May 12, 2014 – As expected by IDC, the Czech desktop market revived in the first quarter of 2014, as device renewals in the business and public sectors went hand in hand with the transition to a newer version of Windows OS (either Win7 or Win8), following the end of Windows XP support in April.

At the same time, the notebook segment increased 20% year-on-year in volume terms, going against the expectations of market stakeholders. Vendors took advantage of Microsoft’s decision to slash the price of Windows 8 for entry-level devices, shipping sufficient volumes to reach high end-of-fiscal-year targets. The PC market as a whole (desktops and notebooks combined) expanded 19%.
