Taking Temperatures: IT Markets Are Warmer Than You Think in EU CEE

Prague, January 16, 2015 –­ At first glance, the IT markets of EU member states in Central and Eastern Europe appear to be as cool as the rest of the European Economy. The rule of thumb that IT markets typically exhibit twice the growth rate of GDP has fallen by the wayside, at least for 2015. Depending on the source, GDP growth forecasts for most CEE EU member states run from around 2% to 3.5% (with Croatia a notable exception, where growth is expected to be flat). Regionally, IT spending is expected to rise by a tepid 3.0% in 2015 and to stay at that level every year through 2018. (TZ)

IDC: Smart TVs give smartphone operating systems a second chance

London, 6 January 2015 – On Monday 5 January, prior to the event’s opening day, CES 2015 in Las Vegas hosted a series of press events by some of the biggest Asian consumer electronics companies, in which they set out some of their new wares. Smart TVs featured prominently among the new products, and several vendors announced that in future they would be basing their smart TVs on operating systems (OS) that started life in smartphones. LG will be using WebOS; Samsung will be using Tizen; Panasonic will be using Firefox OS; and Sony will be using Android TV. (TZ)

IDC: Russian Printing Market Declines in Q3

Rack servers break the bank but modular server units tank in 3Q14 in EMEA

Frankfurt and Prague, December 16, 2014 — As reported in International Data Corporation’s (IDC) EMEA Server Tracker, in the third quarter of 2014 the EMEA server market has continued upon the strong growth seen in 2Q14, to report $2,995 million in vendor revenue and 541,400 units shipped, equating to a positive year on year (YoY) growth of respectively 5.8% and 2.1%. The third quarter of 2014 also represents the second consecutive quarter that EMEA reported a positive YoY growth in unit shipments after several quarters of decline. (TZ)
